THE PRIVATES HAMMOND ORCHESTRA
explosive three piece from Glasgow
The Privates Hammond Orchestra is formed by the guitar/drums/hammond organ trio who made up the backbone of Scottish R&B/funk luminaries T he Boogaloo Investigators, later known as The Five Aces, a band who, in the words of top record producer Bosco Mann (Daptone Records) "successfully reclaim R&B" from its "modern bastardization by major label pop". Now choosing a more direct and raw sound, the threesome composed of Duncan Kennedy on guitar, Iain McClean on the organ, and Ross Wilson on drums has formed a new ensemble specialising in R&B, Beat Instumental, Soul and Ska, with a prediliction for that 50's and 60's dancefloor sound of contagious rhythms and rockin' soul music. As they themselves describe it, The Privates Hammond Orchestra is a mix of Booker T & the MG's, Jack MacDuff, The Ventures and The John Barry 7, with a healthy obsession for short instrumental songs that girls love to dance to. After a series of successful performances that earned them their reputation as a high energy band with a groove that makes you move, The Privates are now continuing in the footsteps of Boogaloo Investigators/Five Aces who already appeared on various Record Kicks releases, by undertaking their own collaboration with the RK label, as well as being the house group of Glasgow-based Starla Records, as they prepare to flood Europe and the world with their infectious sound.
