BABY CHARLES in ITALIA
Sab 17 Mercogliano Music Festival - Mercogliano (AV)
Dom 18 Musicastrada Festival - San Casciano a Cascina (PI)
Brighton-based 8 element new funk & soul outfit BABY CHARLES will be returning to Italy for 2 gig dates in July. The first stop will be at Mercogliano Music Festival in Mercogliano (AV) on the 17th, and the Musicastrada Festival in San Casciano a Cascina (PI) on the 18th. The band has already graced a variety of stages throughout the Italian peninsula in the past, enflaming audiences at Trasimeno Blues Festival as well as Novara Jazz Festival and Veneto Jazz.
Fronted by soul diva Dionne Charles, the group has won over critics and aficionados alike ever since their debut in 2007. From Snowboy, Keb Darge, Gilles Peterson, DJ Shadow, DJ Andy Smith and Mark Lamarr (BBC 2), numerous illustrious names have declared themselves fans of the band, and prestigious American magazine Pitchfork even defined Baby Charles as one of the few groups able to keep up with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. For their 3 shows in Italy expect an explosive mix of deep funk, soul, afrobeat and rhythm & blues able to please both the ears and feet of any syncopated-beat junkie.
In addition, the Baby Charles track "Invisible", taken from from their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, was chosen for the original score of independent American movie "Tom Collins", a narrative about a man named Tommy Collins who gets released from prison and reunites with his brothers. The Baby Charles debut album can be heard and bought here as well as in all the best stores worldwide on CD/LP/Digital Download, but for those interested in the vinyl watch out as very few copies are left in stock and once it's gone it's gone for good!
