RK45044 NICK PRIDE & THE PIMPTONES - "Waitin' So Long feat. Jess Roberts" / "Lay It On The Line feat. Zoe Gilby" on 45/Digital
6-piece funk & soul band NICK PRIDE & THE PIMPTONES are the brainchild of jazz guitarist Nick Pride, who formed this Newcastle-based group in 2007. With a penchant for funky grooves and beefy breaks, Nick Pride & The Pimptones bring the horns to the front and turn up the heat! Their slick arrangements have all the harmonic sophistication that the Jazz Cats love, delivered with a heavyweight punch that keeps the dancefloor moving. Funk fans in the UK were quick to pick up on the band’s self-financed debut album, and by 2009 the group was regularly playing some of the country’s best funk venues.
When DJ/Producer extraordinaire Smoove released Pimptones single “Deeper Pimp” on his Wack Records, the cut went on to enjoy extended radioplay across Europe and was championed by Craig Charles (Funk&Soul Show on BBC6) and Pete Isaac (Jelly Jazz) among others. Skip to 2011 and Record Kicks is pleased to welcome the band on board and present two new tracks on 45/Digital, in anticipation of the debut full-length. Side A's "Waitin’ So Long" is a northern soul stormer featuring amazing soul sister Jessica Roberts (Smoove / Acid Jazz Records), while on the flip "Lay It On The Line" features UK jazz singer Zoe Gilby over a finely crafted melody with a loungy soul-jazz groove. A heavyweight 45 sure to pave the way for Nick Pride & The Pimptones to go global, so watch this group!

"Two quality songs back to back, each with an excellent singer and a six piece band = one crispy seven inch! But it's not mathematics it's the music that counts. High quality soul with a funky edge. Recommended!" – Oliver Korthals (Mojo Club)
“Nick Pride keeps on surprising and touching me. Good ol' high energy funk shit with great vocals!" - Phil Horneman (Wicked Jazz Sounds on Radio 6 Holland)
