Hannah Williams

Hannah Williams and the Affirmations are the current darlings of the worldwide Soul scene. Having been sampled by Jay Z on the Grammy-nominated song “4:44”, they were catapulted around the globe. This has lead them to work with Tyler The Creator, Guy Chambers and Pete Rock, to name a few. They have also been personally championed by Giles Peterson, Huey Morgan and the late, great masters themselves: Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley. From the success of this and their debut album “Late Nights and Heartbreak”, they’ve played such festivals as Montreal Jazz, Central Park Summerstage, Pori Jazz, Quebec City Festival, North Sea Jazz and prestigious venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and Blue Note Tokyo. Hailed by many as the next Amy Winehouse or Aretha Franklin, Hannah Williams is an undeniable force. On stage she is a whirlwind of love, longing, anger and everything in between. Complex Magazine refers to Hannah’s voice as “Incredibly soulful and powerful.” After all, it was her vocal that inspired Jay Z to wake up at 4:44am and record what he later described as “The most gut-wrenching song [he’s] ever written”. Her Bristol-based band, The Affirmations have also been highly praised for their “Stomp-your-feet and clap-your-hands type of soul music that lit up the 60s and 70s”Popmatters
